About Technology and Telecoms Research

Media, content, telecoms and technology businesses have much in common.

In 2011 the number of telephone connections overtook the world’s population; there are now more than 7 billion phone connections globally, of which almost 6 billion are mobile connections. The iPad, launched in April 2010 in the United States, sold 3 million units in the eighty days following its introduction. More Smartphones are now being shipped than PCs. And the internet, which reached just 10% of the world's population in 2003, now defines much of the agenda of the media, content and technology worlds.

Technology is advancing at a faster rate than ever before. This is having a profound effect on content creators and distributors. At the same time, companies traditionally badged as telecoms or technology businesses are taking an increasing interest in the content being carried on their devices.

Mobile phones and even refrigerators now offer television services. Television sets are being configured to display internet content – while PCs offer an increasingly popular place to watch 'catch-up' television or simply to download or stream video content.

For all these reasons Ipsos has brought together into one team the experts previously working with media, telecoms and technology clients to enable us to better help clients understand how consumers are accessing, sharing and creating content across these multiple platforms.
