Online and computer-assisted data collection

Ipsos has been a pioneer from the outset, investing heavily in its people, new methodologies and technology. Our quantitative data collection toolbox includes in-person, mail, phone, household panel, and Internet capabilities.

Today Ipsos has CATI centers in 22 countries, i.e. a total of more than 3000 interviewers stations equipped with predictive dialling systems.

CAPI technology is used throughout Europe where 2600 interviewers have laptops including 2000 with multimedia facilities. In North America data is generally collected by telephone or mail and increasingly through the Internet.

Contracts for quantitative research are mostly national in scope, but demand for multinational surveys is growing rapidly. In response, Ipsos has created its International CatiCentre in London. This is a multilingual centre dedicated entirely to international telephone surveys. With the Virtual CatiCentre, the Group's ability to conduct international surveys from a single centre now includes North America. Contact Tony Harper.

Omnibus surveys

This method involves bringing together several clients with shared interests — and pooling their questions — so that the administrative costs of the research can be shared.

Ipsos was the first research group to offer a European omnibus "Capibus Europe", which is conducted in the homes of interviewees using the CAPI system. Carried out each week with a continuously renewed sample of 6,000 people, Capibus Europe covers five major countries.

Similar tools have been launched in Central Europe the "Eastern European Omnibus", in Asia the "Asia PacificOmnibus", in partnership with local research companies, in Latin America with the Ipsos Bus Brazil, and in the Middle East. Contact Tony Harper, and Oliviero Marchese.

Omnibus surveys are also carried out by Ipsos North America using telephone (CATI system) and on-line data collection systems, monthly or weekly. Contact Chris Deeney.

Ipsos Global Express is a quarterly omnibus survey of up to 50 countries, conducted by Ipsos Reid through its worldwide network of research partners. Global Express an indispensable tool for researchers, marketing professionals, and senior executives who require current, comprehensive, and reliable information on consumer attitudes and behaviors throughout the world. Panels and Interactive Services:

Access panels are made up of selected individuals who agree to take part regularly in surveys, usually by completing questionnaires sent directly to their homes, by mail or online. The Ipsos companies in Canada and the United States, and now in Europe, led with Internet-based research by creating online access panels of internet-enable households willing to take part in our surveys.

Ipsos has access to a total of 1,500,000 househlods, and to 2,700,000 Internet linked homes.
