Outpatient and Ambulatory Surgery (OAS) CAHPS

OUR SOLUTIONS
OAS CAHPS has been in development since 2012. In January 2016, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will launch a voluntary national reporting program open to any interested Medicare-certified Hospital Outpatient Departments (HOPDs) and free-standing ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs).

Ipsos is among the first survey vendors to receive approval to conduct the OAS CAHPS survey in 2015. The survey is a monthly assessment of 37 items, covering topics such as access to care, communications, and experience with the facility and staff. Ipsos is approved to conduct the survey in any of the three methodologies; mail only, telephone only, or mixed.

HOPDs and ASCs will benefit from participating in the voluntary national reporting program by having the ability to compare their patient responses against their state and the national average (results and links to these datasets will be available for download on a CMS website such as Medicare.gov). Additionally, HOPDs and ASCs may add supplementary questions to the survey and can choose to replace their internal patient experience of care surveys with the OAS CAHPS survey.
