​Biotech: Biotechnology applications are used in a variety of fields of science such as agriculture and medicine, including biopharmaceuticals and gene therapy. Biotechnology companies – or 'biotechs' – manufacture drugs that have a biological basis by using live organisms, such as bacteria or enzymes. Biotech companies are different to pharmaceutical companies which use only chemicals to manufacture their drugs. Examples of biotech companies include Gilead Sciences, Amgen, Biogen and Celgene.
