Definition

COM-B is a 'behaviour system' involving three essential conditions: capability, opportunity, and motivation. COM-B proposes that intrapersonal (capability and motivation) and environmental (opportunity) influences on behavior interact and behavior influences all three components. In addition to being a useful model of behaviour, it is also a central aspect of the Behaviour Change Wheel (BCW), which specifies that behavior change requires change in one or more of capability, opportunity, and motivation, and these can serve as targets for behavior change interventions when used alongside the BCW.
