A new poll by Ipsos MORI carried out across the G20 reveals the top challenges faced by women in the workplace. The survey, which was conducted on behalf of the Thomson Reuters Foundation, asked women across G20 countries what top five challenges they feel they face at work. The results show that work-life balance is the most mentioned issue. This is followed by equal pay and having the same career opportunities as men. Harassment by co-workers was also mentioned key issue in our survey and nearly one in three G20 women say they have been harassed at work.
The results reveal even more on a country by country basis. The data show how perceptions of equality at work can vary greatly, likely because of different cultural expectations. In places like the UK and France women were much more likely to point out inequality in the workplace, while in Turkey and India they were more likely to point to other issues. There were also key findings when comparing age groups: younger G20 women were found to be more upbeat about their future in the workplace than older women.

Technical note: The survey was carried out online by Ipsos Global @dvisor from 24 July– 7 August 2015 and face-to-face in South Africa and Indonesia from 6 August – 25 August 2015. Respondents are aged 18-64 in the US and Canada, and 16-64 in all other countries. Data are weighted to match the population profile of each country.
