Attitudes to the 2024 Olympics

Ipsos has released the results of a 33-country survey investigating attitudes to the 2024 Paris Games. Interest is higher than it was for Tokyo, and 75% feel that the games will be an important opportunity for the world to come together.

July 22nd, 2024: Key results for the Philippines:

  • Filipinos’ interest (75%) in the 2024 Paris Games is one of the Top 5 countries interested in this years game which is 18% higher than the global country average (57%). The host country, France shows only 46% interest. Across the 33 countries surveyed; Millennials (61%) and Gen Z (59%) are more likely to be interested in the games.
  • The top 5 events that Filipinos are interested in are Basketball (53%), Volleyball (45%), Boxing (34%), Gymnastics (22%) and Weightlifting (16%). 
  • Filipinos (88%) are more likely to say the Olympic team makes them proud of the Philippines, much higher than the global country average (78%).
  • The majority of all the countries surveyed says the Games should go ahead despite climate change (72% and 82% in PH) and the world's economy and conflicts (72% and 80% in PH). 

Across the 33 countries surveyed; Millennials (62%) and Gen Z (61%) are more likely to say the Games inspire them to participate in sport. Filipinos are slightly above the the global country average (55%) to agree with this, with 69% of Filipinos saying the games inspire them to participate in sport. These are the results of a 33-country survey conducted by Ipsos on its Global Advisor online platform and, in India, on its IndiaBus platform, between Friday, May 24 and Friday, June 7, 2024. For this survey, Ipsos interviewed a total of 24,531 adults aged 18 years and older in India, 18-74 in Canada, Republic of Ireland, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Africa, Türkiye, and the United States, 20-74 in Thailand, 21-74 in Indonesia and Singapore, and 16-74 in all other countries.
