In the spirit of giving back to the community, this past week Ipsos staff in Tanzania visited Chakuwama Orphanage in Dar es Salaam; a home to 64 needy children aged 2-18. Two thirds of these children are already enrolled in nearby schools. Despite their needy and vulnerable background occasioned by deceased parents or rescue from abusive families, the children were happy, smiling and intimately engaged with Ipsos staff. These children were amazing and in need of love.
Ipsos Staff donated clothes, food stuffs and funds. The cash was used to purchase laundry items, sanitary pads, toothpastes, charcoal and electricity tokens. We spent an afternoon having fun playing with the children, an activity we hope to replicate. It was evident that the children enjoyed this as much as we did.
About Chakuwama Orphanage
A government sponsored orphanage with limited funding which does not cover the needs of the children. While the center receives donations occasionally, the resources are not adequate to run the orphanage financially. The center, though needy with poor facilities also provides education – nursery to secondary school. We will reach out to the Ipsos Foundation for partnership in assisting these needy children.
