Global concern about Coronavirus is once more on the increase. We approach the end of the year with almost two-thirds across 27 nations saying that things in their country are on the wrong track.

Ipsos today publishes the seventh edition of its Future Risks Report for Axa. This global study measures and ranks changes in the perception of emerging risks by a panel of risk management experts and the general public. Over 20,000 people were interviewed. Conducted in partnership with research institute Ipsos and geopolitical analysis consultancy Eurasia Group, this year’s ranking of the 10 main emerging risks is marked by the Covid-19 crisis.

46% of people around the world see Coronavirus as one of the top issues affecting their country today. Our latest What Worries the World survey shows spikes in concern in many nations.

Have concerns about coronavirus peaked?

The world is now split on whether coronavirus or unemployment is the most worrying issue facing their country today.

COVID-19 overtakes all other issues in Ipsos’ What Worries the World survey with the highest level of concern recorded for any category since the series began.

Poverty & social inequality continues to be the greatest concern worldwide. We start the year with 61% globally saying that things in their country are heading in the wrong direction, up four points on 12 months ago.

‘What Worries the World’? 58% believe their nation is on the wrong track – whilst concerns about unemployment continue to be a prominent worry.

The majority (61%) of Belgians think things in the country are on the wrong track. Poverty and social inequality currently occupies the top spot for concern with 40% saying this.
