Spotlight*Jordan: Views on News & Media

While social media remains the main gateway to news in Jordan, consumers are placing their trust in traditional sources and are increasingly checking credibility before believing or sharing what they read.

News consumption in Jordan runs almost entirely through social media, with nearly all consumers using social platforms for news and close to two-thirds naming them as their main source. Yet reach and trust sit apart; television remains the most trusted source while Facebook ranks among the least, and older audiences are more likely to complement social platforms with traditional and online news outlets.

Concerns about misinformation are shaping behavior rather than simply causing unease. Nearly four in ten were misled by a false story during the past year, yet close to three-quarters now say they always verify credibility before believing or sharing. When judging a source, Jordanians place the greatest weight on comprehensive coverage of local and international news and on information cross-referenced with other outlets, alongside reputation and accuracy. Together, the findings point to a landscape where reach is easily won, but credibility must be demonstrated.
