AFR Ipsos poll on the mark for the 2022 Federal Election
The key results from the final Ipsos Poll for The Australian Financial Review showed a two-party preferred estimate of 53% ALP, 47% Coalition, from a poll conducted 15th-18th May 2022. Those remaining undecided at this late stage of the campaign were allocated according to their previous voting behaviour at the 2019 Federal Election.
The design of the eve-of-election Ipsos poll for the 2022 Federal Election combined online, mobile and landline telephone surveys to accurately represent the views of the Australian population. The sample size was 1,996 and included only those enrolled to vote and certain to vote.
Ipsos is the leading global polling company, with more than 30 years’ experience in conducting election polling across many countries and has been polling in Australia since 2014.
Ipsos Australia Director, Jess Elgood, said: “We’re constantly vigilant that our polling is as accurate as possible – and we’ll learn more lessons from the dramatic voting behaviour at Saturday’s Federal Election. We implemented changes to enhance our methodology in the wake of the 2019 election and are pleased that the AFR Ipsos eve-of-election poll successfully identified the likely Labor path to victory that has emerged, the gender split in voting intention, and the importance that climate change played in influencing voters.”
As a founding member of the Australian Polling Council, the Ipsos polling complies with the council’s Code of Conduct, including publication of the required methodology statement, and carries the Australian Polling Council’s Quality Mark.
