Africa's energy landscape is characterized by significant deficiencies, with vast disparities in electricity access across the continent. Available data paints a comprehensive picture of the energy situation and the growing role of solar solutions. Grid connectivity rates vary dramatically across African countries, ranging from as low as 2% in South Sudan to 100% in countries like Morocco and Libya.

As the adverse effects of climate change continue to skyrocket all over the world, coupled with the global shocks that been observed over the past 3 years due to the COVID-19 epidemic such as trade restrictions, rising food prices, economic instability, exacerbated by the Russia- Ukraine war, Sub Saharan Africa (SSA) has been feeling the heat and has been at the receiving end to say the least, as most African countries are battling with the severest drought ever experienced in 40 years especially the horn of Africa.

The Ipsos Africa Centre for Development Research and Evaluation is a team of development researchers and evaluators based in our Ipsos offices across Africa. We employ a wide range of methods and approaches and work with deep local expertise to provide high-quality evidence to address development challenges.

We are proud to have just completed a very fascinating and important piece of work mapping Women’s Groups and Women Empowerment Collectives in Uganda and Nigeria. This study provides a database of groups and collectives with a majority of women participants and insights into how the groups were formed, what they do, profiling of members as well as their pathways to empowerment.

The Ipsos Africa Centre for Development Research and Evaluation, specialises in Monitoring, Evaluation Research and Learning for development organizations, and comprises 40 professional researchers and evaluators based all across Sub-Saharan Africa, with regional management based in Kenya and Uganda.

The initial slow spread of Covid-19 through Africa helped some countries to start preparing for the inevitable, but – a little more than a year into the pandemic – many Africans report a rather devastating effect on their lives and livelihoods. In many areas people experience a loss of income, and food security is under pressure. In addition, people who need medication for chronic or other illnesses can quite often not acquire the necessary medication or find it impossible to get to hospitals or clinics.
