Evelyn Tan, Interim Country Director, Ipsos Malaysia mentions:
"The positive growth of Malaysian economy and the stable inflation in 2024 has contributed to a favourable consumer outlook. Our survey data reveals that the Malaysian Consumer Confidence Index in January 2025 has surged by 4% compared to a year ago. Notably, our index surpasses the global average, as well as Japan and South Korea, suggesting that Malaysian consumers are more optimistic about their economic prospects than our regional counterparts.
The positive growth of Consumer Confidence Index is underpinned by increased confidence in job security, future investment and purchasing power. This indicates that consumers are feeling more comfortable about their personal financial conditions, which can translate into increased consumer spending.
Looking ahead, there will be new opportunities and challenges in 2025. While anticipating positive economic growth, potential disruptions such as tariffs war, geopolitical instability, and subsidy rationalization could impact consumer confidence. As the economic landscape continues to evolve, maintaining resilience will be crucial for Malaysians to navigate these uncertainties effectively."
