Edmonton Residents Disapprove Of Stelmach Government Handling Of Health Care

Edmonton, AB - A new Ipsos Reid/Global Edmonton poll shows Edmonton residents largely disapproving of the job the Stelmach provincial government has done in its handling of health care in Alberta. Currently, two-thirds (68%) of Edmonton residents say they disapprove of the government's performance on health care (37% strongly, 31% somewhat). One-in-three (32%) Edmontonians approve of the job being done on health care (4% strongly, 28% somewhat).

Public dissatisfaction is clearly linked to concerns about the level of government spending on health care. Specifically, two-thirds (68%) agree that "they are concerned about the current level of government spending on health care" (30% strongly, 38% somewhat). One-in-three (32%) Edmonton residents disagree they are concerned about health care spending (6% strongly, 26% somewhat).

These are some of the findings of an Ipsos Reid poll conducted between Aug 14 and 18, 2009, on behalf of Global Edmonton. For this survey, a sample of 440 adults living in Edmonton from Ipsos' Canadian online panel was interviewed online. Weighting was then employed to balance demographics and ensure that the sample's composition reflects that of the adult population according to Census data and to provide results intended to approximate the sample universe. A survey with an unweighted probability sample of this size and a 100% response rate would have an estimated margin of error of +/-4.7 percentage points 19 times out of 20, of what the results would have been had the entire population of adults in Edmonton been polled. All sample surveys and polls may be subject to other sources of error, including, but not limited to coverage error, and measurement error.
