Toronto, ON - Eight in ten (77%) Canadians say that at some point they've wanted to be their own boss, according to a new Ipsos poll conducted on behalf of GoDaddy. Among those who say they've wanted to be their own boss, the reasons include to allow flexibility in their work/life (61%), to work when they want, how they want, and where they want (55%), to make a better living by earning more (50%), so that they could pursue other passions like spending time with family or training for a race (31%), to build a business legacy (23%) or some other reason (10%).
Moreover, eight in ten (79%) Canadians think they would be more productive and motivated if they pursued a venture that would help them lead the life they want.
When asked what the ideal age is for someone to start a business, the average age Canadians offered was 29 years old. In fact, a majority (64%) said it is ideal to start a business while in your twenties, suggesting that most feel it's best to get an early start.
These are some of the findings of an Ipsos poll conducted between September 21 to 26, 2016, on behalf of GoDaddy. For this survey, a sample of 1,002Canadians from Ipsos' online panel was interviewed online. Weighting was then employed to balance demographics to ensure that the sample's composition reflects that of the adult population according to Census data and to provide results intended to approximate the sample universe. The precision of Ipsos online polls is measured using a credibility interval. In this case, the poll is accurate to within +/ - 3.5 percentage points, 19 times out of 20, had all Canadian adults been polled. The credibility interval will be wider among subsets of the population. All sample surveys and polls may be subject to other sources of error, including, but not limited to coverage error, and measurement error.
