Support for Bruce Refurbishment Remains High in Bruce, Grey, and Huron Counties
A strong majority (83%) of residents strongly or somewhat support the refurbishment of units at Bruce Power.
Toronto, ON - A new survey conducted by Ipsos Reid on behalf of Bruce Power indicates that Bruce, Grey, and Huron county residents continue to show strong support for Bruce Power's plans to refurbish nuclear reactors at Bruce.
Overall, about four in five (83%) Bruce, Grey, and Huron county residents `support' (45% strongly/38% somewhat) Bruce Power's plan to refurbish nuclear reactors in Bruce, with just one in ten (13%) `opposing' (6% strongly/7% somewhat) refurbishment and 3% not having an opinion. Support for refurbishment is highest among Bruce County residents where a majority (56%) of residents `strongly' support this plan. Support for the refurbishment of the Bruce facility is unchanged from 2013 (82%).
The survey of residents also indicates that the vast majority of Bruce, Grey, and Huron county residents have positive impressions of Bruce Power. Among those residents who are at least a little familiar with the organization, most `agree' that Bruce Power...
- Operates Bruce Nuclear Facility safely - 91% `agree' (54% strongly/37% somewhat)
- Is a good community citizen - 90% `agree' (52% strongly/39% somewhat)
- Is involved with the community in a positive way - 88% `agree' (52% strongly/36% somewhat)
- Has security measures at the Bruce Nuclear Facility and residents can be confident in - 88% `agree' (47% strongly/41% somewhat)
- Keeps the community updated through regular communications - 80% `agree' (39% strongly/41% somewhat)
- Is responsibly managed - 80% `agree' (35% strongly/45% somewhat)
These are some of the findings of an Ipsos Reid poll conducted on behalf of Bruce Power from March 5th to 14th, 2014. For the survey, a representative randomly selected sample of 500 local residents of Bruce, Grey, and Huron Counties was interviewed via telephone. The survey is considered accurate to within +/- 4.4 percentage points, 19 times out of 20, had this entire eligible sample universe been surveyed. These data were weighted to ensure that the sample's age/sex composition reflects that of the actual Canadian population according to the latest Census information.
