Tories Continue To Lead The Pack
Gap Narrows In Midst Of Schreiber-Mulroney Affair
Ottawa, ON - Prime Minister Harper and his Conservative government continue to lead the pack, with a new Ipsos Reid poll revealing that the Tories have the support of 39% (a decline of three points) of decided voters. However, in the midst of the controversy surrounding the Schreiber-Mulroney Affair, the gap between the Tories and the Grits has narrowed slightly, with Dion's Liberals sitting at 29% support nationally (an increase of one point). The NDP is holding steady with 15% support nation-wide, while the Green Party has the support of 8% of decided voters, which represents an increase of one point. Eight percent (8%) of voters remain undecided.
Within Quebec, the Bloc Quebecois has held steady and is receiving support from 31% of Quebecers (8% nationally), while the Tories have dropped five points and now have the support of 26% of decided voters. The Liberals are also unchanged, maintaining the support of 23% of Quebecers, while the NDP now enjoys support from 13% of Quebecers, an increase of three points. Support for the Green Party within Quebec has increased slightly, moving to 7% support (an increase of two points).
These are the findings of an Ipsos Reid poll conducted on behalf of CanWest News Service and Global Television from Nov 20 to Nov 22, 2007. For the survey, a representative randomly selected sample of 1000 adult Canadians was interviewed by telephone. With a sample of this size, the results are considered accurate to within 177 3.1 percentage points, 19 times out of 20, of what they would have been had the entire adult population of Canada been polled. The margin of error will be larger within regions and for other sub-groupings of the survey population. These data were weighted to ensure that the sample's regional and age/sex composition reflects that of the actual Canadian population according to Census data.
