Ipsos World Refugee Survey (NZ) 2023

19 June 2023: New Zealanders record the highest level of support for refugee programmes amongst 29 countries. The Ipsos Global Advisor survey also shows that the majority of New Zealanders agree that refugees who come to New Zealand will successfully integrate into New Zealand Society.

The Ipsos World Refugee Day 2023 survey released today explores attitudes and perceptions of New Zealanders towards refugees and their impact on New Zealand society compared to the citizens of 28 other countries. The survey found that 87% of New Zealanders agree that people should be able to take refuge in other countries including in New Zealand to escape from war or persecution. This was the highest level of agreement compared to citizens across all 29 countries included in the Ipsos survey.

Two thirds (66%) of New Zealanders also agree that most refugees who come to New Zealand will successfully integrate into New Zealand society and New Zealanders (68%) are also the most supportive to allow more refugees to re-settle in their country.
