Canadians Confident Their Political Leaders Can Manage Trump
A majority of Canadians are confident that Canada’s political leaders can manage President Trump. This sentiment is strongest among Liberals voters (81%) and weakest among Conservative (40%) and Bloc (49%) voters.
Canadians continue to believe Canada’s future is better served by aligning with like-minded countries in Europe, up 6 points since a year ago. Canadians also continue to believe that we can never trust the Americans the same way again, and that the issues we are having with the U.S. will not be resolved soon.
Six in 10 Canadians expect that President Trump and the U.S. will eventually return to the negotiating table and seek a trade agreement, a sentiment held by voters of all parties. Those earning over $100K (72%), men (67%) and Boomers (67%) are the most likely to believe this. By contrast, women (59%), GenZers (52%) and Canadians earning less than $40K (57%) are slightly less likely to believe this.
