Most Canadians (56%) Have Considered Getting Involved In A Charitable Or Non-Profit Organization
And Survey Suggest There Are Several Different Ways Charities Could Increase Interest
- "An easy to use and navigable website where you can find important information about the organization" (47%);
- "Viewing event/meetings related to he organization's cause online" (36%); and
- "Receive e-newsletters from the organization about current campaigns and events" (34%).
These are the findings of an Ipsos Reid poll fielded from January 9-11th, 2007. For the survey, a representative sample of 1000 adult Canadians was interviewed by telephone. The sample used in this study has been weighted according to Census data to accurately reflect the population of Canadians. With a sample of this size, the aggregate results are considered accurate to within 1773.1 percentage points, 19 times out of 20, of what they would have been had this entire population been polled. The margin of error will be larger within each sub-grouping of the survey population.
Fifty-six Percent Of Canadians Have Participated Or Considered Staring Or Getting Actively Involved In A Non-profit Or Charitable Organization...
Fifty six percent of Canadians indicate that they have "participated or considered starting or getting actively involved in a non-profit or charitable organization" - 44%, though, have not.
- Residents of Saskatchewan/Manitoba (66%), are the most likely to have participated/considered getting involved, followed by those in Atlantic Canada (62%), Alberta (60%), Ontario and British Columbia (both at 58%), and Quebec (45%).
- Those with higher household incomes (61% among those from households with more than $60,000/year) and wither higher educational levels (67% among those with a University degree) are the most likely to indicate that they have participated or considered starting or getting actively involved in a non-profit or charitable organization.
So, What Things Could Inspire Or Make It Easier For Canadians To Get Involved In Non-Profits...
Residents of Quebec (35%) are the least likely to say "an easy to use and navigable website where you can find important information about the organization" is something that would make them more likely to get involved in a non-profit organization, while residents of Alberta (52%) and British Columbia (52%) are the most likely to say it would. Younger adults aged 18-34 are also the most likely to say this (58% vs. 41% among those over age 35).
