Ipsos on Consumer Confidence: November 2022
Ipsos’ Consumer Confidence metrics show Overall Confidence sliding further into negative territory (–10% versus its norm), down 4 points from last month.
Consumer confidence in Canada is becoming increasingly challenging, and November is no exception with the index sliding further into negative territory this month at -10%, down 4 points from a month ago.
The 4 pillars of confidence are all net negative, painting a gloomy view for the next couple of months. But it is Current Personal Confidence (the “micro”) that has emerged as the most problematic as it’s the most direct driver of consumer behaviour.
Ipsos tracks consumer confidence each month, exploring:
- Personal Confidence: How people feel about their personal finances – both today and for the future.
- Economy Confidence: How people feel about the broader economic situation in Canada – both today and in the future
- Current Confidence – a combination of how Canadians feel about both their personal finances and the country’s broader economic situation today.
- Future Confidence – a combination of how Canadians feel about both their personal finances and Canada’s broader economic situation in the future
- Overall Confidence reflects all metrics combined.
