Majority (54%) of Canadian Parents of Children 12 and Under Wish It Were Easier to Come Up With Things to Do With Family in the Summer Months

Rainy Days (53%), Road Trips (45%), and When It's Too Hot Outside (45%) Are Most Difficult Situations to Keep Family Entertained in Summer

Toronto, ON - With summer knocking on the door and the final school bell of the year about to ring, many Canadian families are anxiously trying to figure out ways to keep their families entertained during this upcoming summer season, although easier is said than done, according to a new study conducted by Ipsos Reid on behalf of Netflix Canada.

Majority (54%) of Canadian parents with pre-teenage children `agree' (15% strongly/39% somewhat) that they `wish it were easier to come up with things to do with their family in the summer months', while a minority (46%) `disagree' (17% strongly/29% somewhat).

When It's Most Difficult to Keep the Family Entertained...

Given a list of situations where it may prove difficult to keep their family occupied and entertained, many Canadian parents say that the most difficult situations are those involving bad weather or car trips.

Majority (53%) of parents indicate that it's `difficult' (10% very/43% somewhat) to keep their family entertained `on a rainy day', while a minority (47%) say it's `not difficult' (13% not at all/34% not very) to do so on rainy days.

Nearly half (45%) find it `difficult' (9% very/36% somewhat) to keep family entertained `on a road trip in the car', while more than half (55%) think it's `not difficult' (14% not at all/40% not very) to keep their family entertained during car trips. A similar proportion (45%) believe it's `difficult' (8% very/37% somewhat) to keep their families entertained `when it's too hot outside', although a majority (55%) believe occupying their families during heat-filled days is `not difficult' (17% not at all/38% not very).

The following table outlines in full the difficulty of parents to keep their families entertained given the provided situations:

These are some of the findings of an Ipsos Reid poll conducted between June 10th to 13th, 2013 on behalf of Netflix Canada. For this survey, a sample of 1,024 Canadian parents with children ages 12 and under from Ipsos' Canadian online panel was interviewed online. Weighting was then employed to balance demographics to ensure that the sample's composition reflects that of the adult population according to Census data and to provide results intended to approximate the sample universe. The precision of Ipsos online polls is measured using a credibility interval. In this case, the poll is accurate to within +/- 3.5 percentage points had all Canadians parents of children ages 12 and under been polled. All sample surveys and polls may be subject to other sources of error, including, but not limited to coverage error, and measurement error.
