Many (79%) Canadians are Having Trouble Coming Up with New Holiday Gift Ideas
Toronto, ON - With the holiday season just around the corner, finding that perfect gift for someone can be a difficult task. Eight in ten (79%) Canadians `agree' (29% strongly/50% somewhat) that it's hard to come up with new ideas for holiday gifts, according to a new Ipsos poll conducted on behalf of World Vision.
With the hassle that often comes with finding gifts also comes the frustration of trying to not overspend: eight in ten (83%) agree (50% strongly/33% somewhat) it's hard to find a good holiday gift for $10.
More women (87%) than men (79%) express their frustrations with trying to find gifts under $10. Meanwhile, Baby Boomers (87%) are more likely to agree it's hard finding those $10 gifts compared to Gen X'ers (83%) and Millennials (79%).
Many Canadians are dreading doing their holiday shopping, with nearly three in four (72%) agreeing (27% strongly/45% somewhat) that finding a holiday gift that people will like is a chore.
Gen X'ers are most likely not going to be looking forward to searching for that perfect gift this holiday season, compared to other generations. With more than three in four (77%) Gen X'ers agreeing finding gifts that people will like is a chore compared to 71% of Baby Boomers and 68% of Millennials.
These are some of the findings of an Ipsos poll conducted between October 11 and October 14, 2016, on behalf of World Vision. For this survey, a sample of 1,000 Canadians from Ipsos' online panel was interviewed online. Weighting was then employed to balance demographics to ensure that the sample's composition reflects that of the adult population according to Census data and to provide results intended to approximate the sample universe. The precision of Ipsos online polls is measured using a credibility interval. In this case, the poll is accurate to within +/ - 3.5 percentage points, 19 times out of 20, had all Canadian adults been polled. The credibility interval will be wider among subsets of the population. All sample surveys and polls may be subject to other sources of error, including, but not limited to coverage error, and measurement error.
