Perceptions of Healthcare System Deteriorate 5 points Since Last Year; Prognosis for the Future is Grim
Canadians are twice as likely to expect the quality of healthcare that they and their family will have access to locally will worsen rather than improve in the next few years.
Toronto, ON, March 4, 2024 - Canadians are twice as likely to expect the quality of healthcare that they and their family will have access to locally will worsen rather than improve in the next few years. Atlantic Canadians (43%) and those in BC (32%) are significantly more likely to feel the quality of healthcare in their local area is worse than elsewhere in Canada.

Compared to January 2023, Canadians are more likely to rate the quality of healthcare in Canada as neither good nor bad and are less likely to rate it as good.

When those who say the quality of healthcare they have access to is not good were asked why they believe this, most cite there not being enough healthcare professionals to meet demand (77%, +5 pts since January 2023). Canadians are less likely to think this because there is not enough funding from the federal government compared to last year (44%, -7 pts).
About the study
These are some of the findings of an Ipsos poll conducted between February 16 and 20, 2024, on behalf of Global News. For this survey, a sample of 1,001 Canadians aged 18+ was interviewed. Quotas and weighting were employed to ensure that the sample’s composition reflects that of the Canadian population according to census parameters. The precision of Ipsos online polls is measured using a credibility interval. In this case, the poll is accurate to within ± 3.8 percentage points, 19 times out of 20, had all Canadians aged 18+ been polled. The credibility interval will be wider among subsets of the population. All sample surveys and polls may be subject to other sources of error, including, but not limited to coverage error, and measurement error.
