Spring Cleaning
Most Canadians Thoroughly Clean Their Home At Least Weekly
The kitchen (38%) tops the list as the room that Canadians say is most satisfying to clean, closely followed by the living room or family room (31%). Which room is their least favourite to clean? The bathroom tops the list with 44% and the basement/attic comes in second with 25%.
Asked which household chore they'd prefer to do, cleaning or ironing, three-quarters (73%) of Canadians say they'd rather clean. Should come as no surprise then that when asked which of two statements--"Martha Stewart would be proud" or "It's a disaster area"--best describes the state of their home, two-thirds (65%) say "Martha Stewart would be proud."
Respondents were also asked how many surface cleaners such as Fantastic, Mr. Clean, or Pledge they currently in their home. As a whole, Canadians report having four surface cleaners in their home at this time. However, of these, on average they only use three regularly.
Just over half (55%) of Canadians say they trust their current surface cleaner on their electronics.
These are the findings of an Ipsos-Reid/SC Johnson poll conducted from March 8th to March 10th, 2005. For the survey, a representative randomly selected sample of 1000 adult Canadians was interviewed by telephone. With a sample of this size, the results are considered accurate to within 1773.1 percentage points, 19 times out of 20, of what they would have been had the entire adult Canadian population been polled. The margin of error will be larger within regions and for other sub-groupings of the survey population. These data were weighted to ensure the sample's regional and age/sex composition reflects that of the actual Canadian population according to the 2001 Census data.
