Frequently Asked Questions about the Quality of Life Survey

Key information about the Quality of Life survey

  • The Quality of Life Survey is conducted every two years. 
  • In the past, the survey had been distributed via post, and respondents were invited to participate online. 
  • This year respondents will be invited via email to complete an online survey. The first invitations will go out on 23 of April and the online survey will remain open until 16 May 2024.
  • Following the close of the online survey, additional face-to-face interviews will be conducted in areas to ensure we reach a wide sample representative of the population of your city/region.
  • The survey is very important for councils to help them understand their residents’ needs and ensure that the right decisions are made about programmes and services offered in different communities.
  • The ultimate goal is to help councils improve their residents’ overall quality of life.

Timings

  • The online survey will be open between 23 April to 16 May.
  • Face-to-face interviews will be conducted between 24 May to 31 July* (*In Tauranga, face-to-face interviews will be conducted between 24 May to 27 June)

General questions

Q. What is the purpose of this survey / What is this survey about? 

  • It is to provide information to local councils to improve the quality of life of New Zealanders.

Q. Is the survey genuine? 

  • Yes it is. It is being done for 8 local councils and 1 regional council. Ipsos is an independent market research company commissioned to do the survey.  You can check on this if you like by looking at the Quality of Life website: http://www.qualityoflifeproject.govt.nz

Q. What do I get for completing it? 

  • Once you complete the survey, you can enter the draw to win one of five $250 prizes. These prizes will be provided as a Prezzy® card, which can be used anywhere Visa is accepted. 

  • You can find the Terms and Conditions for the prize draw towards the bottom of this page. 

Q. Do I have to do it? 

  • No, the survey is completely voluntary, but we would really appreciate it if you could take part. 

Q. How long will the survey take? 

  • The survey has been designed to take around 15 minutes to complete. Some people may take longer and some people may complete it faster.

Q. I don’t have internet access / Can I get a hardcopy of the questionnaire? 

  • This survey is available online only. 

Confidentiality

Q. Is this survey really private / confidential / anonymous? 

  • The answers you give will be confidential and grouped with other people’s answers to create results at an aggregated level, your information and answers are anonymous and cannot be traced back to you. Only grouped results will be passed on to your local or regional Council. Please be careful not to give information in your responses that might identify you (such as name, email address, etc).

  • Ipsos is an ISO-certified market research supplier and follow independent protocols for managing respondent privacy, quality issues, and data security, and are compliant with the GDPR and the ESOMAR Code of Conduct.

Q. How did you select me to participate <OR I want to know how you did the random selection>? 

  • Ipsos reached respondents through the following three ways:

  1. Online survey panels. 
  2. Those who had completed the Quality of Life Survey in previous years and had agreed to be re-contacted for any future Quality of Life Surveys.
  3. Council survey panels.

Q. Can I get a copy of the results when you are finished? OR Can you send me the results? 

  • You can see the results from the previous years on the Quality of Life website: www.qualityoflifeproject.govt.nz. Results from this year’s survey will be available at this website around November 2024. 

Terms & Conditions

  1. All information published by the Promoter on how to enter, and the prize, forms part of these terms and conditions.
  2. Participants will be entered into the prize draw by completing the 2024 Quality of Life Survey and agreeing to sharing their details with Ipsos (at the end of the survey) and agreeing to these competition terms and conditions. 
  3. For the draw there are 5x $250 prizes, provided as a Prezzy® Card, which can be used anywhere Visa is accepted. Participants will each receive one entry only into the prize draw.
  4. The promotion period for the draw ends at the end of the survey period (Online surveys: 23 April 2024 – 16 May 2024 | Face-to-face surveys: 24 May 2024 – 31 July 2024).
  5. Employees of the Promoter and agencies associated with this promotion shall not be eligible for the prize draws.
  6. Entry is open to New Zealand residents. 
  7. Entries submitted which enclose partial information, are submitted by or through dishonest means, fraud or illegal activity, or entries not complying with these terms and conditions, are invalid. 
  8. The draw will be held following the end of the face-to-face survey period which ends Wednesday 31 July 2024. The winners for the draw will be chosen randomly from all eligible entries (including both online-only and face-to-face survey entrants) on Monday 12 August 2024. The winners will be notified by phone or email as soon as practicable via the contact details provided by them. If the Promoter is unable to contact a winner within 10 working days of the date of the Draw, the winner will be deemed to have forfeited their prize and a new winner will be drawn on the same terms as the original competition. No compensation will be given to a person who wins a prize but cannot be contacted.
  9. The Promoter takes no responsibility for lost, damaged, misdirected, late, illegible or incomplete registrations or entries, incorrect or inaccurate transcription of entry information, or for any human error, technical malfunctions, lost/delayed data transmission, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, line failures, failures of computer equipment or software, inability to access telecommunications network services, corruption of any format holding an entry, or any other error or malfunction. 
  10. All entries are deemed to be received on submission of a completed survey to the Promoter. The draw will close on 11.59pm on 12 August 2024. Records of the Promoter are final and conclusive as to time of receipt. 
  11. The prize is not transferrable.
  12. To the extent permitted by law, the Promoter and its associated agencies are not liable in any way (including, without limitation, in negligence) for any loss, damage or injury (including indirect and consequential loss) suffered or sustained in connection with participation in this promotion or the use of the prize. 
  13. The Promoter reserves the right to alter any aspect of the promotion at any time at its sole discretion. 
  14. The Promoter’s decisions on all matters relating to this promotion are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
