If Given the Choice of One Superpower, Nearly One Half (45%) Would Chose Ability to Heal Themselves
Time travel (25%), Telepathy (15%), Ability to Fly (10%) and Ability to Steal Other's Powers (5%) Not as Popular
Toronto, ON - It appears that many Canadians might be dreaming of immortality, with a new Ipsos Reid poll conducted on behalf of Global Television revealing that, among a list of five superpowers, nearly one half (45%) would choose the ability to heal themselves if injured. One in four (25%) Canadian would choose to time travel, while others would want `the ability to mind read - telepathy' (15%), to fly (10%), or the ability to steal other's powers.
- Women (49%) are more likely than men (40%) to choose the ability to heal oneself, while men (28%) are more inclined than women (22%) to want to time travel.
- Older Canadians (67%) are much more likely than middle-aged (37%) or younger Canadians (29%) to want to heal themselves, while younger (30%) and middle-aged (30%) folks are more inclined to want to time travel than are older Canadians (15%).
- Quebecers (49%) are the most likely to want to heal themselves, while residents of Saskatchewan and Manitoba (32%) are more likely than those in other regions to want to time travel. Ontarians (16%) and British Columbians (16%) are most likely to be interested in telepathy, while Albertans (16%) are most likely to want to fly.
These are the findings of an Ipsos Reid poll conducted on Global Television from August 13 to August 18, 2008. This online survey of 1023 Canadian adults was conducted via the Ipsos I-Say Online Panel, Ipsos Reid's national online panel. The results are based on a sample where quota sampling and weighting are employed to balance demographics and ensure that the sample's composition reflects that of the actual Ontarian population according to Census data. Quota samples with weighting from the Ipsos online panel provide results that are intended to approximate a probability sample. An unweighted probability sample of this size, with a 100% response rate, would have an estimated margin of error of +/- 3.1 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
