Vaughan Residents Call for Immediate Action on Worsening Housing Affordability
Toronto, ON, January 29, 2026 — Recent Ipsos polling for TRREB shows growing concern among Vaughan residents about worsening affordability and the need for meaningful provincial action. Sixty‑three percent of residents say the housing situation in Vaughan has gotten worse, and 74% express frustration with the lack of progress on affordability.
Residents Say Governments Are Falling Short on Affordability
A major driver of this worry is the next generation’s future. Eighty‑three percent are concerned that young people renting or living with their parents may never be able to buy a home, signaling deep anxiety about long‑term affordability.
Residents also point to government‑driven costs as part of the problem. Ninety‑one percent agree that housing taxes in Ontario are too high and want provincial reform, and 83% support cutting development charges on new homes to reduce the cost of building and buying.
Affordability challenges are worsening, young people are increasingly shut out, and residents want immediate action to reduce taxes and development costs to restore a path to homeownership.
About the Study
These are some of the findings of an Ipsos poll conducted between Oct 17th – 30th, 2025, on behalf of TRREB. For this survey, a sample of 2,000 GTA residents aged 18 years and over was interviewed. Weighting was then employed to balance demographics to ensure that the sample's composition reflects that of the adult population according to Census data and to provide results intended to approximate the sample universe. The precision of Ipsos online polls is measured using a credibility interval. In this case, the poll is accurate to within ±2.7 percentage points, 19 times out of 20, had all GTA adults been polled. The credibility interval will be wider among subsets of the population. All sample surveys and polls may be subject to other sources of error, including, but not limited to coverage error, and measurement error.
