With the COVID 19 restrictions easing and cities getting more buoyant and people coming out and traveling more, a pan India, new Ipsos UrbanBus survey shows that at least 7 in 10 urban Indians claim to be comfortable about travelling. Though they remain concerned about the risks, particularly in the areas of health (57%), safety and security (56%), cleanliness and hygiene (54%), food options (33%), local transportation (30%) and accommodation (25%).

Parijat Chakraborty, Group Service Line Leader, Public Affairs and Corporate Reputation, said, “This positive sentiment around travel bodes well for the economy and the livelihood of millions of people. But with some of these concerns lurking and given highly infectious nature of the coronavirus, which is known to mutate, we still cannot throw caution to the winds.”

“Ipsos India UrbanBus is a new initiative of Ipsos India to provide insights about society, market and people in a more rigorous, robust and continuous way, to provide a true picture of urban consumers,” added Chakraborty.

The survey also provided interesting insights by SEC A, B & C, profiles (high income and low income), segments (self-employed, students, employed, unemployed, retired etc.), education (high education and low education), zones (North, East, West, South) and town class (metros, tier 1, 2  and tier 3 towns) etc.

The Self-employed (79%) and Students (73%) were more confident of venturing out and traveling versus other segments, which could also be due to compulsions of livelihood and studies. Interestingly, SEC A was more confident of traveling (72%) vis-à-vis SEC B, C & D (67%). Likewise, those with higher education were more confident of traveling (74%) versus low education (67%). Those from tier 2 towns were less confident (66%) as compared to those from the metros (72%). Also, the zone wise confidence for travel was not uniform. While North (75%), East (74%) and West (72%) were confident of traveling, South Zone was comparatively lower (58%) in confidence about traveling. The cities covered in South zone included Davangree, Chennai, Madurai and Cochin.

Ipsos India UrbanBus is a monthly pan India omnibus survey conducted by Ipsos India on diverse topics among 2800+ respondents from SEC A, B and C households, covering all adults of both genders in a representative way. The respondents were polled face to face and online.
