Desperate times call for desperate measures – Netizens & General Indians warn of imminent Environmental Disaster unless habits altered; confidence in science & scientists depleting – Ipsos GTS Survey 2021

Climate Antagonism - GTS 2021

A new highly rigorous survey by Ipsos titled The Global Trends Survey 2021 which not only covers diverse topics, but this year the survey covers both netizens and NCCS A, B and C has at least 9 in 10 respondents worried about the adverse impact on environment which could lead to brinkmanship unless habits were changed quickly – christened Climate Antagonism – it actually shows the level of desperation among Indians now about saving the planet.

The survey also highlights that both netizens (55%) and general Indians (74%) believe that science and scientists can do very little to save the planet.  "Global warming, depletion of the protective ozone layer, recurrent natural disasters, flash floods are all indicators of climate change and its adverse impact on the planet. In India, we have encountered more climate related adverse events than ever during the last few years. We need to stop abusing the environment by saying no to single use plastics, reducing our carbon emissions by using greener fuels, switching to energy saving devices, conserving natural resources; otherwise we will be enemies of our planet and not saviors," said Amit Adarkar, CEO, Ipsos India.

"The survey emphasizes on Brand Purpose – how sustainability and eco-friendly ideals can be leveraged by brands looking for purpose and authenticity to further connect with the consumers," added Adarkar.

"This report is a must have for marketers as it provides key signals for 2020s, as the macro-forces have caused major shifts in consumer behavior and priorities. And we have a robust sample size for India covering netizens and general Indians from NCCS A, B and C," said Adarkar.

Across the 25 marketsalmost two thirds (63%) say it is more important to them that companies do as much as they can to reduce harm to the environment than it is that companies pay the right amount of tax
, while just a quarter say tax is more important than climate (27%).
