74% of Canadians agree more homes need to be built in their community to lower housing prices and make housing more affordable; 73% agree Canada should cut immigration targets until the housing shortage eases; 68% agree Canada should put a cap on international students until the demand for affordable housing eases. While Canadians strongly agree that more homes should be built, they are split on whether it will actually impact housing prices substantially, with 56% agreeing it will lower the cost of buying a new home and 57% agreeing it will lower the cost of rent. Two-thirds (65%) of current homeowners disagree that building more housing will cause their home to be worth less.

There is strong support for building larger buildings (60%), more homes in suburbs or rural areas (76%), not-for-profit rental units (79%), and shelters (74%) to increase housing supply.

Chart showing the percentages of Canadians who have confidence in different organizations to build more housing: non-profit agencies 48%; land developers and home builders 44%; municipal government 36%; provincial government 34%; federal government 32%.
