Over Eight in Ten Residents Support Proposed Bruce C Expansion
Toronto, Ontario, February 5, 2026 – A new Ipsos poll conducted for Bruce Power finds that more than eight in ten residents support the proposed expansion of the Bruce Power facility through the Bruce C project, including nearly half who ‘strongly support’ the expansion. Support has increased since 2024, with opposition declining over the same period.
Support for the Bruce C project is strong and growing, particularly among those aware of the Impact Assessment
More than eight in ten (86%) residents support the proposed Bruce C project to add up to 4,800 megawatts (MW) of nuclear generation at the existing Bruce Power site, up five points since 2024. Nearly half (47%) say they ‘strongly support’ the project (+9 points), while only one in ten (10%, -7 points) oppose the expansion.
Support is significantly stronger among those who are aware of the Bruce C Impact Assessment (94%) compared to those who are not aware (80%). Overall awareness of the Impact Assessment stands at seven in ten (69%) residents, including one in ten (10%, +4 points) who say they are ‘very aware’.
Residents widely recognize the benefits of expanding the Bruce Power facility
Perceived benefits of the proposed expansion are widespread. Nearly all residents agree that building Bruce C would create jobs and employment opportunities for local residents (96%). Around nine in ten also agree that the expansion will be good for the community (91%), that using the existing Bruce Power site offers advantages over developing new sites elsewhere (90%), and that expansion is necessary to meet Ontario’s growing electricity needs (88%).
Among those familiar with Bruce Power, impressions remain highly positive
Attitudes toward Bruce Power continue to be very positive among residents familiar with the organization. Nearly nine in ten (89%, +3 points) of those who are familiar have a positive impression of Bruce Power. More than nine in ten agree that the Bruce Power facility operates safely (96%, +3 points), that Bruce Power is a ‘good community citizen’ (95%, +2 points), and that the organization is involved with the community in a positive way (93%, +1 point).
Support for refurbishing existing nuclear units reaches a historic high
Support for refurbishing existing nuclear units has reached a historic high, with more than nine in ten (92%, +6 points) residents expressing support, including over six in ten (61%) who say they ‘strongly support’ refurbishment.

About the Survey
These are the findings of an Ipsos poll conducted on behalf of Bruce Power. For the survey, a sample of n=500 adults in Bruce, Grey and Huron Counties which is all part of the treaty territory of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation Territory, were interviewed via telephone (including a majority of households recruited by cell phone) from November 10 to November 27, 2025. Quotas and weighting were used to ensure that the sample reflects the population distribution of Grey County, Bruce County and Huron County according to census parameters. The margin of error for this poll is ±4.4 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
