Trend: The balance between the wonder of technology’s promise and the worry of its perils has remained in equilibrium for some years. But growing unease with the pace of change in many markets threatens to tip it toward pessimism and even opposition.

How it has ACCELERATED: The warning signs are flashing in markets that have long supported tech advancement. AI enthusiasm has long lagged in the U.S. And between 2025 and 2026, positivity towards AI declined in several AI-leading markets, including Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong SAR and Great Britain. Even in China, where sentiment remains strongly positive overall, enthusiasm has softened slightly. Likewise, younger citizens, who traditionally are strong tech supporters, are having their beliefs tested by the potential threats to climate and jobs represented by AI.
