The Ipsos Global Trustworthiness Index 2022 results show the top 3 professions urban Indians trust the most were armed forces members (64%), scientists (63%) and teachers (62%)! These were closely followed by doctors (55%) and judges (54%).

Interestingly, the global list of most trusted professions was largely dictated by the pandemic: doctors (59%), scientists (57%), teachers (52%), armed forces (41%) and ordinary men and women (38%).

Commenting on the findings of the study, Amit Adarkar, CEO, Ipsos India said, "The study looks at dedication and almost honours the heroes of the pandemic. Those who served the nation despite the deadly pandemic – armed forces members/ personnel, scientists (they came up with the vaccines and medicines to offset the coronavirus in a record time frame), teachers who taught virtually and remotely, adapting to the tough scenario, doctors who unmindful of personal safety treated the patients during the pandemic (corona warriors). The global list also believes the ordinary citizens have trustworthy professions.  Ergo, all these professions evoke a lot of trust."

Untrustworthy professions

While the survey identified the most trusted professions by markets, there was also the untrustworthy professions list!

Top professions urban Indians found most untrustworthy were politicians generally (50%), govt ministers (43%), journalists (35%), TV news readers (34%)  and advertising professionals (32%).

"Probably what this means, respondents would not take everything on face value of what these professionals would say, but with a pinch of salt. Though the perception could also be misplaced and even the good work would be put under the scanner by the common man," stated  Adarkar.

The global list of untrustworthy professions included politicians generally (64%), govt ministers (55%) and advertising executives (43%).

These are the findings of an Ipsos online survey conducted between 27 May and 10 June 2022 among 21,515 adults in 28 countries around the world, via the Ipsos Online Panel system in Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, Peru, Poland, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, and the United States.
