Ipsos introduce new policy for menopausal staff to create safe and supportive environment

The new policy will make a significant difference to the lives of all those at Ipsos who are likely to experience the menopause.

Ipsos is proud to launch its new policy focussed on supporting those navigating the menopause.  The policy has been introduced to address the issues and potential stigma surrounding the menopause and support staff going through it.

Ipsos wants to encourage staff to talk about the menopause and the impact it can have on the individuals going through it and those supporting family members going through the symptoms.

To address the stigma and help those experiencing the menopause, Ipsos has signed the Wellbeing of Women Menopause Workplace Pledge and has made the following commitments:

Paid leave

We understand that if you experience menopausal symptoms you may need time off, whether that’s to seek medical advice, to rest or to manage your symptoms. Therefore, to support you during this time, you are entitled to up to 10 days’ paid leave per year to help you manage your symptoms in whatever way is best for you, or to support a loved one through the menopause.

Working environment

Minor adjustments to your working environment can make a huge difference. If you are experiencing menopausal symptoms, we can offer a range of solutions, from desk fans to quiet and first aid rooms to occupation health assessments.

Adjustments to work patterns and flexible working

We recognise that menopausal symptoms can come at any time, therefore flexibility is key. To help this we are offering a range of options, from simply moving to a different part of the office to temporarily reducing working hours or increased working from home, we will do our best to make work as comfortable as possible.

Line managers

Those going through the menopause should not have to do so in silence and should feel comfortable to speak to their line managers and be heard. Therefore, we are educating all managers on the experiences of those going through menopause and ensuring they are aware of the best ways to help those that need support.

General support

As well as specific policies, Ipsos also has a wide range of groups and networks that can help those experiencing menopause, including the Menopause Group, our Mental Health First Aiders, our Wellness Action Plan and taboo breaking events.

Ipsos wants to ensure all its employees are able to enjoy and thrive in their working environment, no matter the stage of life and will continue to do what it can to create a safe and comfortable place to work.

Claire Timmins, Director of HR at Ipsos, says:

For some, the symptoms of menopause can be complex and the majority of people suffer these in silence, but this has to stop.  We need to be talking about the very real impact the menopause can have on people, both in the workplace and in their private lives, and empowering them to take that support when they need it. People at this life stage have a wealth of experience and knowledge and are enormously valuable to our business and we want to support our staff, so they continue to have successful and fulfilling careers. I am incredibly proud to be publishing this new policy, which I think will make a significant difference to the lives of all those at Ipsos who are likely to experience the menopause themselves or may need to support a family member through it.
