Far more of the British public consider building more homes to be the best way of boosting the economy through infrastructure investment (40%), than other options such as increased airport capacity (5%) or a new High Speed Rail line (4%). Ipsos asked 1,442 adults aged 15+:“The government is trying to boost the economy and is considering major infrastructure investment. Which one of these if any, do you think is the best way of boosting the economy?” “Improve existing road infrastructure” was the second most named option (20%) followed by “Improve existing rail infrastructure” which was selected by 14% of respondents.

The research, commissioned by HS2 Action Alliance, was carried out between 21st September and 8th October 2012.

  • Fieldwork dates: 21st September – 8th October 2012
