Most Scots planning to mark royal wedding in some way
Around 6 in 10 Scots are planning to mark next year's royal wedding in some way while the remainder will either do nothing or try to ignore the whole thing.
On the day that the location and date for William and Kate's marriage is confirmed, an Ipsos Scotland survey shows that 41% of Scots will watch the event live on TV and 30% will tune in to recorded highlights. Only small numbers will buy souvenirs (4%), celebrate by having a party (4%) or travel to London to join in the festivities (2%).
Participation in the event is highest among women and those in older age groups, over three quarters of whom will do something to mark the occasion. In contrast, around a third of Scots say that they will try to ignore the wedding altogether, a feeling most strongly expressed by men (50%) and those in the 18-24 age group (51%).
Technical note: We interviewed 1,001 adults aged 18 or over. Interviews were conducted160by telephone between 18th and 21st November 2010. Data are weighted by age, sex and working status using census data, and tenure using SHS 2007-2008 data.
