As part of its investigation into corporate attitudes towards the arts, Arts & Business reveals today that Captains of Industry believe that artistic activities in the work place can help to motivate staff and in turn play an essential role in driving their company's profitability.
The finding comes from two commissioned surveys conducted by MORI on behalf of Arts & Business. The research investigated attitudes towards the arts and their effect on working behaviour among Captains of Industry and the general public.
The results indicate that over half the workers surveyed (53%) feel that if their employer were to provide opportunities to enjoy artistic activities they would be more motivated in their work. Furthermore, 95% of Captains of Industry said they felt that motivation is 'essential' or 'very important' in directly driving company performance.
Commenting on the survey results, Arts & Business Chief Executive, Colin Tweedy said "The very vision of Arts & Business is to help create partnerships by raising awareness of the effectiveness and impact of the arts in the workplace. These results provide a timely reminder of the importance of this working relationship. There will be ample opportunity to see further examples of this at our forthcoming Arts & Business Week (4th - 13th March) so why not come along and be bowled over by discovering how your organisation can really benefit."
Arts & Business Week 2002 runs from 4th - 13th March. A showcase of events across the country will see senior people from the UK's top businesses coming together with representatives of the arts world to promote how the arts can be used to make businesses more successful.
