Public views on the use of wild animals in circuses in Wales

Poll commissioned for the RSPCA in 2006 asking whether people think the use of wild animals in circuses should or should not be banned.

Ipsos research among the Welsh public shows that three-quarters (76%) feel the use of wild animals in circuses should be banned. This includes 59% who agree strongly. In West South Wales the figure is 83%, while the respective figures among men and women are 82% and 70%.

Technical Note The poll was commissioned by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA). It comprised a nationally representative quota sample of 1,017 adults aged 16+ interviewed across Wales.

The questions were placed on a Welsh Omnibus survey160and interviews were conducted face-to-face, in respondents' homes, using160CAPI (Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing - laptops) between 7-12 September 2006. Results are weighted to the profile of the Welsh adult population.

Where results do not sum to 100%, this is due to the exclusion of don't knows / not stated, or to computer rounding. Results are based on all respondents unless otherwise stated.
