Support services for young victims of crime
In order to find out what helps young people cope when they are victims of crime and develop a new evidence-based service for young victims, we were commissioned by Victim Support Scotland to carry out research with a sample of young people aged 12 to 18. This qualitative study involved conducting group discussions with young people about their experiences of victimisation, awareness of the types of support currently on offer and attitudes towards different types of services which may help young people who have been victims. The project was completed in early March 2011.
We visited four youth groups, located in Glasgow, Edinburgh, West Lothian and the Scottish Borders. In total, 37 young people (19 boys and 18 girls) were involved in the research, ranging in age from 12 to late teens.
