Purpose + Mission
Transport and infrastructure have never been more important to achieving the UK’s societal, environmental and economic goals. We conduct sector-leading research and evaluation which bring together customer, citizen and stakeholder voices to inform decisions that shape the future of our transport and infrastructure systems.
Approach
Our sector-specialist team provides robust evidence and strategic insights to policy makers, government bodies and agencies, transport operators and not-for-profit organisations. This includes clients in the road and rail sectors, aviation, and active travel.
Our work also spans key cross-cutting areas that are integral to the way our transport and infrastructure system operates and is used, such as environmental sustainability and decarbonisation, and technology and digitisation in transport. We examine the role of transport in society and communities, active travel and public health and wellbeing, safety, the impact of transport and infrastructure developments on businesses and the economy, and local and regional development.
Our team of around 15 researchers and consultants conduct studies using methods including:
- Survey research with the general public, including online, telephone, postal and ‘push to web’, and face-to-face survey modes.
- Stakeholder research and consultancy, distilling organisations’ business problems and designing research programmes to address them.
- Process, outcomes, and impact policy evaluations.
- In-depth research with people experiencing vulnerabilities and on sensitive topics.
- Large-scale public consultations on transport policies or new infrastructure projects.
- Customer satisfaction research and customer journey mapping.
- Ethnographic research.
- User experience and user testing.
- Data analytics, secondary data analysis and data science.
- Reputational research for organisations and businesses.
Integrated solutions
We work with teams across Ipsos UK to deliver many of our projects, including:
- KnowledgePanel - we provide the UK's largest online random probability panel.
- Public opinion polling – we use public opinion polling and bespoke surveys at the national or local level, using random probability and quota-based designs.
- Policy evaluation – we use policy evaluation and economic analyses, including outcomes, impact and process evaluations.
- Communications research – we work with the Communications team to inform campaign development and measuring the impact of communications.
- Behavioural Science – we work with the behavioural science team on key behavioural research, from behavioural diagnosis and behavioural insights through to intervention design, testing and evaluation.
- QREC – the Qualitative Research and Engagement Centre provides public engagement and dialogue, including deliberative research on key issues and policy decisions.
