The latest wave of the Ipsos / USA Today Retirement poll has been released. Key findings from the study are below.
Key Findings:
- “Traveling” (55%) was the top response when respondents were asked how they planned on spending their retirement followed by “Spending more time with family” (54%) and “Volunteering” (35%).
- 82% of respondents who had a household income greater than $50,000 said “Yes” to currently having retirement savings or investments compared to only 40% of respondents who made less than $50,000 saying the same thing.
- Married (75%) respondents were also more likely than non-married (57%) to say “Yes” to having had retirement savings or investments.
- When asked how concerned (Very/Somewhat) they were with being to afford various health related costs during retirement, 65% said they were concerned with affording a major medical issue and 58% said they were concerned with being able to afford in-home medical care.

These are findings from Wave 2 of an Ipsos poll conducted from March, 13th to March 15th, 2017 on behalf of USA Today. For the survey, a sample of 1,152 adults ages 45-65 from the continental U.S., Alaska and Hawaii was interviewed online in English. Wave 1 was conducted January 11-16, 2017 among 1,205 adults ages 45-65. The precision of Ipsos online polls is measured using a credibility interval. In this case, the poll has a credibility interval of plus or minus 3.3 percentage points. The The credibility interval is adjusted for design effect of the following (n=1,152, DEFF=1.5, adjusted Confidence Interval=4.8).
