Ipsos Core Political: Presidential Approval Tracker (04/22/2021)
Washington, DC, April 22, 2021 – As we approach the end of President Biden’s first 100 days in office, Biden continues to benefit from near-universal approval among his Democratic base and 54% approval overall. When it comes to the nation's issues, Americans are most concerned about the economy, inequality, and immigration.
Detailed Findings
The economy (17%), inequality and discrimination (13%), immigration (13%), and public health (11%) remain the top four issues that the country is facing today.
Democrats and Republicans have conflicting views on what the most important issues are. Democrats believe inequality and discrimination (24%) is, while only 3% of Republicans do. On the other hand, 25% of Republicans believe immigration is most pressing when only 5% of Democrats believe it is. Meanwhile, independents are more split on the issues. Fifteen percent actually say other problems beyond those listed here are most important, with divisive politics mentioned most often.
President Biden’s approval rating remains stable compared to last week, at 54%.
Nine in 10 Democrats approve of President Biden’s performance in office. Meanwhile, 50% of independents approve, but only 17% of Republicans do.
About the Study
These are some of the findings of an Ipsos poll conducted between April 21-22, 2021. For this survey, a sample of 1,004 Americans age 18+ from the continental U.S., Alaska, and Hawaii were interviewed online in English. The sample includes 440 Democrats, 378 Republicans, and 124 independents. Weighting was then employed to balance demographics to ensure that the sample's composition reflects that of the adult population according to Census data and to provide results intended to approximate the sample universe. The precision of Ipsos online polls is measured using a credibility interval. In this case, the poll is accurate to within ± 3.5 percentage points, 19 times out of 20, had all Americans been polled. The credibility interval will be wider among subsets of the population. All sample surveys and polls may be subject to other sources of error, including but not limited to coverage error and measurement error. The poll also has a credibility interval of ± 5.3 percentage points for Democrats, ± 5.7 percentage points for Republicans, and ± 10.0 percentage points for independents.
