Ipsos Core Political : Presidential Approval Tracker (04/28/2021)

Over half of Americans continue to approve of President Biden's performance

Washington, DC, April 28, 2021 –  Tomorrow marks President Biden’s 100th day in office. This week’s Core Political results indicate over half of Americans are satisfied with the work he has been doing so far. The most important issues have shifted over these past few months, with immigration and inequality and discrimination becoming higher priorities as concern over the healthcare system subsides.

As Biden was sworn into office in January, Americans were most concerned about the economy, COVID-19, and healthcare overall. At this point, the economy (20%) is still the top concern, but immigration (12%) has risen since Jan 22nd (6%), and the healthcare system (9%) has fallen lower on the list compared to January (16%). New issues like public health (12%) and inequality (10%) have also become more critical.

Main issues Americans are facing

Concern for public health (21%) has increased by ten points among Democrats, compared to last week (11%), while inequality and discrimination (14%) have dropped ten points since last week (24%). For Republicans, immigration (27%) continues to be the top priority, followed closely behind by the economy (24%). Independents believe the economy (22%) is most pressing, followed by inequality (14%) and the healthcare system (13%).

About the Study

These are some of the findings of an Ipsos poll conducted between April 27-28, 2021. For this survey, a sample of 1,005 Americans age 18+ from the continental U.S., Alaska, and Hawaii were interviewed online in English. The sample includes 463 Democrats, 377 Republicans, and 99 independents. Weighting was then employed to balance demographics to ensure that the sample's composition reflects that of the adult population according to Census data and to provide results intended to approximate the sample universe. The precision of Ipsos online polls is measured using a credibility interval. In this case, the poll is accurate to within ± 3.5 percentage points, 19 times out of 20, had all Americans been polled. The credibility interval will be wider among subsets of the population. All sample surveys and polls may be subject to other sources of error, including but not limited to coverage error and measurement error. The poll also has a credibility interval of ± 5.2 percentage points for Democrats, ± 5.8 percentage points for Republicans, and ± 11.2 percentage points for independents.
