Approach, February 2016

Welcome to Approach, the newsletter from the social research team at Ipsos Scotland.

We've had a busy year so far embarking on a range of new and important studies, and reporting on several others. One of these; the Scottish Schools Adolescent Lifestyle and Substance Use Survey (SALSUS), is the focus of two articles in this edition.

Carolyn Black looks at our experience of moving the survey from paper-based to online administration, while David Myers considers what the data can tell us about the attainment gap between young people in Scotland’s richest and poorest communities.

In this edition, we’re also reflecting on our work in a wider sense: November 2015 marked the 20th anniversary of our Edinburgh office. To celebrate, we held an event attended by clients, friends and colleagues. Mark Diffley’s report on the event includes links to the slides presented on the night.

We hope you enjoy reading the newsletter and if you would like to discuss any of the issues raised, please get in touch.
