Most people in Britain still prefer to use traditional banking methods for their savings, rather than more modern, tax efficient facilities.

MORI Financial Services, commissioned by Standard Life, found two thirds (68%) of regular savers place the majority of their savings in either a bank or building society account (39% in a bank and 29% in a building society).

By contrast, just over one in 10 regular savers (13%) put their savings in tax efficient ISAs, and a mere one percent hold their spare funds in bonds.

Technical details

MORI conducted 2005 interviews among adults (aged 16+) between 9 and 14 May 2002. The sample of adults was fully representative of the adult population of Great Britain by sex, age, class and religion. Fieldwork was carried out by MORI Field and Tab using Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI).
