British Public Opinion, September 1978 (First Poll)

MORI interviewed a representative interlocking quota sample of 1,078 adults aged 18+. Interviews were conducted face-to-face in 54 constituency sampling points across Great Britain on 4 September 1978.

Q6 Do you think that the general economic condition of the country will improve, stay the same, or get worse over the next 12 months?

Q7 Some people have said that the next round of pay rises should be limited to 5%. Do you think that this... ...would be good or bad for you personally? ...would be good or bad for the country as a whole?

Q8 Are you in full-time-paid employment (i.e. working over 30 hours per week)? Q9 (To all in full-time employment) How likely do you think it is that your pay will rise by more than 5% during the next 12 months?

Q10 I am going to read out some statements which some people have made about trade unions in Britain. Please tell me whether you agree or disagree with each.

Q11 Do you think that the Prime Minister should call an election for this October, or should he wait to have the election next year, in 1979?

Q12 If the Prime Minister does not call an election in October, do you think that the Liberal Party should continue to support the Government, or should they vote against the Government to force an election?
