Britons, along with most citizens around the world, believe Hillary Clinton will win the upcoming U.S. presidential election, new global research from Ipsos finds. And whilst Donald Trump is seen as the favorite by the people of a handful of countries, Clinton leads by very large margins in Latin American countries.

Ipsos carried out the survey in 37 countries, which finds Clinton enjoys most belief from Latin American countries, including Argentina (74%), Brazil (69%), Colombia (82%), Chile (82%) and Mexico (86%). Other countries that make her a strong favourite include South Korea (84%) and Norway (83%).

The countries most likely to back a Trump win include Serbia (40%), Montenegro (34%) and Israel (33%), although in the latter two countries Clinton is still favourite.  Chinese citizens are split between the candidates, with more saying they “don’t know” than either of the candidates, but with Trump (32%) slightly ahead of Clinton (28%) among those who have a view.

In Britain, 61% think the former first lady is on course for victory, and only 16% think that her opponent will win. Among Americans, a majority are expecting Clinton will win (50%) and just over a quarter think Trump is headed to victory (26%), but one in four (23%) say they just don’t know – higher than in many other countries.

Commenting on the research, Gideon Skinner, Head of Political Research, Ipsos, said:

“Whilst we can’t vote in the US election, Britons are clear on who they think is headed to the Oval Office. This isn’t surprising, given that our research finds Trump has near universal unfavourability here and this reflects that many American media and analysts are expecting. It won’t be long until we know whether the wisdom of the crowd is right on this occasion, but given the strength of feeling – a Trump victory on 8 November will certainly be a surprise around the world.”
