The recent fire in the Channel Tunnel has not deterred business travellers and decision makers from using the services, according to a survey conducted by MORI for Carlson Wagonlit. Over nine in ten say they would use the Eurostar service again, whether they were asked before or after the fire took place.

Half of the decision makers surveyed claim to have travelled on one or more of the Channel Tunnel services (compared with 40% in January 1996) while a quarter have used both Eurostar and Le Shuttle.

There has also been an increase in the propensity to travel on Eurostar again - 92% of business travellers say they will do so compared with 78% in the previous survey.

Interest in travelling to destinations beyond Paris and Brussels has also increased over the past year. Around two in five companies (39%) say they are more likely to do so this time compared with 34% in January.

Technical details

The telephone survey was conducted among 400 decision makers (122 being interviewed as travellers), a further 100 travellers, and 100 bookers in November 1996. 56 of those interviewed were from the FTSE 100 - 11 from the top twenty. In some cases more than one interview was carried out within the same company.
