Four In Five Find Hunting 'Cruel'
A majority of people in the UK think that hunting with dogs is cruel, according to new figures from the MORI Social Research Institute. The project, commissioned by the Campaign to Protect Hunted Animals (CPHA), asked people to say whether they believed four selected words did or did not apply to hunting with hounds.
A majority of people in the UK think that hunting with dogs is cruel, according to new figures from the MORI Social Research Institute. The project, commissioned by the Campaign to Protect Hunted Animals (CPHA), asked people to say whether they believed four selected words did or did not apply to hunting with hounds.
Four in five people (80%) think the word 'cruel' applies to hunting, with 17% disagreeing. The word 'humane' is linked to hunting by 18% whilst 78% do not feel the word 'humane' applies to hunting.
Asked if they feel the word 'immoral' can be applied to hunting with hounds, three in five (61%) believe it can be, and a third (34%) believe it cannot.

Technical details
MORI interviewed a nationally representative sample of 1,000 adults aged 16+, by telephone, between 13-16 December 2002. Results are weighted to the national population profile.
